Last month, the band caroline returned with their fist new song in three years. Today, the band has shared another new song and announced their sophomore record, caroline 2, will be out in May. The new song, "Tell Me I Never Knew That," starts over a slow and lone acoustic guitar riff that builds quietly as vocals conjoin and embrace one another to confirm their own stance on individuality. Soon, a distant drum beat join and cymbals begin to crash and the song moves forward with intricate beauty. The song's steady progression slowly adds more into the mix and it's not long before the full band contribution becomes complete. At some point, Caroline Polachek joins in as well and a rising trumpet punctuates the sentiment before everything strips away and we're once again left with the sole guitar and vocals that morph the phrase "It always has been / always will be" into "it always happens" before settling on "it always will be." The song carefully ascends without ever really increasing the momentum and the careful contemplation brings forth the attention to detail that this group so successfully tackles.
