Model/Actriz - "Doves"

The New York post-punk group shared the second single from their upcoming album, Pirouette.

After sharing the brutalist track "Cinderella" last month, Model/Actriz have returned with "Doves," the second single from their sophomore record and this one continues the punishing sound with a grinding beat and eerie, brooding melodies. It cuts like a knife with its serrated edges tearing through the industrial synth textures that coat the outside of this otherwise bruising tune. There's a tension that grabs hold of this track from the honest and band never loosens their grip on this sinister track. According to frontman Cole Haden:

"Doves" was the first song on Pirouette to have fully completed lyrics. Initially, its story wasn't entirely clear to me, but it ultimately became the gateway to the rest of the album's writing. Within the song, I sing from an empty cathedral, but on a broader level, it explores how a place that once felt like a sanctuary can, over time, become a cage. Ultimately, the challenge then lies in finding the courage to step beyond it. The song is about trusting that the effort to break free is worth it.

This is a seething track and the band shows that they're not ready to soft their edges any time soon and, if anything, it proves just how twisted they can get when given the chance to unleash the feelings that have kept them so contained.

 Pirouette is out May 2.
