Julien Baker & TORRES - "Dirt"

The collaborative album between Julien Baker and TORRES arrives next month and they've shared a fourth single, "Dirt," ahead of its release.

After teasing the album for quite some time, Julien Baker and TORRES finally acknowledged their collaboration at the end of 2024 with some shows to play their new tunes together. This year, they made it official by announcing a record and have been sharing songs ahead of a tour that was supposed to kick off this week (it was post-poned after someone in the band got a concussion). Today, the duo drop the Baker-led new song "Dirt," which is a gentle and easy acoustic ballad that you probably would confuse for a solo Julien song (no shade to TORRES) based on the vocal part alone. There are soft strings that add some depth to this one and it seems like the natural mid-set track to let these two shine on their own while the rest of the band takes a moment for themselves. As hinted by the somber melody, Baker sings what so many of us have been feeling as of late as she says "If you ask how I’ve been doing I won’t lie / More than half the time I'm only skating by / Waiting for the ice to melt beneath me." It's a real, but harsh blow to admit when the chaos feels too much, but Baker's vulnerability almost feels natural here, as if we'd expect her to be anything but honest.

Send a Prayer My Way is out April 18.
