The new single from Chappell Roan has arrived!
The biggest rising pop star of the past year struck gold in the spring of 2024 when she took the world by storm with her smash hit "Good Luck, Babe!" which helped catapult her previous album to the top of the charts and brought in the biggest festival crowds in history. Today, Chappell Roan’s back with her first new song since becoming a real life feminomenon and it’s the “cuntry” leaning “The Giver,” which she performed during her SNL debut this past November. Once again collaborating with hit-maker and rising star Dan Nigro, she doesn't play it safe here and takes some bold risks to continue to showcase her range as a performer and icon in the making. Chappell makes it clear out the gate though that while she sings about working the Pink Pony Club in West Hollywood, she knows her midwest country roots and the strong fiddle from the jump doesn't give you time to question it. In a press release she stated:
I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bon fires, grocery stores and karaoke bars. Many people have asked if this means I'm making a country album??? My answer is.. right now I’m just making songs that make me feel happy and fun and "The Giver" is my take on cuntry xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for y'all.
Her voice sounds like she's in her natural state as she belts away from atop her high horse and leads the way through a classic "na na na" moment and it's easy to see how this one will become a grower and lead to more massive sing alongs across festival fields this coming summer. "I just think a lesbian country song is really funny," she also told Amazon Music and it's hard to disagree with that one. She sure does deliver and get the job done.
