If you still haven't checked out Waxahatchee's marvelous album from 2024, I don't know what's stopping you. However, if you're still on the fence, Crutchfield has delivered a short new single that is cut from the same cloth as her last record and sums up the stunning sound in just over two minutes. Featuring MJ Lenderman on backing vocals and guitar work as well as Spencer Tweedy on drums, she's rounded out her band with some high caliber companions and really lets them shine on the final product. With a tad more momentum than some of the slowburners we've come to love from Waxahatchee, this one is an upbeat number and a bonafide rocking country tune that wastes no time in showing us just on talented Crutchfield is and how her knack for songwriting puts her with the best of her generation. While we might still be waiting a while for a new record, "Mud" serves as a wonderful victory lap after the well-deserved success of Tigers Blood and proves Crutchfield's hot streak is showing no signs of slowing down.
