Sometimes a band just has a sound. It's not always a revolutionary sound, but it can be definitive enough that when you hear it, you know who you are listening to immediately. Model/Actriz are still a relatively new band, but even with just one album under their belt, you know it's them with the opening notes of their songs. Take their new one, for example. "Cinderella" is the lead single from the band's upcoming sophomore album and within seconds the band's blood-curdling bass line presents itself with an ominous and eerie tone before the floor drops out and the industrial dance-party machine takes over. Model/Actriz haven't always been so forward in their approach towards post-punk, leaning more towards the stark, dark side of the genre and less so the vibes that might make you get out of your seat and move a little. That's one of the many highlights of "Cinderella," it's a song that perfectly encapsulates what the band has already accomplished and pushes them towards further greatness without compromising their sound, but instead embracing what more they can do with something already so firmly their own. In celebrating and relishing in their own sound also comes their vulnerability and in particular, frontman Cole Haden's, as he opens up in the song's video about his own queerness and gives us a noise-rock anthem for Ball culture.
