DARKSIDE - "S.N.C."

Last fall, DARKSIDE shared a new song and announced a U.S. tour, now they're back with another new track and an album, Nothing, due next month.

In 2013, the duo of Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington gave us the jaw-dropping album Psychic, a dizzying electronic album that still holds up as a brilliant body of work that still sounds unlike anything else, including their underwhelming follow-up record they released after getting back together in 2021. Now the duo has been joined by drummer Tlacael Esparza and their latest track, "S.N.C.," sounds like the group has embarked on an entirely new sonic journey. Easing in with familiar vibes of soft electronic touches and an easy beat, the song begins to expand as it adds in bits of synthesizers, incredibly funky grooves, slapping bass lines, and filtered falsettos to make something that once again sounds like something totally their own. The album was born out of improvisational jam sessions as they got ready to tour and "S.N.C." gives off that organic origin story of coming together from various directions and not a single idea. The result is something that buries itself deep in the conscious and slowly reveals itself setting the stage for a whole new era for the band. It'll be exciting to see exactly where they end up and the ride will certainly be worthing joining.

Nothing is out February 28.
