While The Cure have never split up and have toured rather regularly over the years, the last time they released a new studio album was in 2008. Sixteen years later and the goth icons are finally gearing up to deliver another record and the second single only confirms that the wait was worth it. Robert Smith's voice remains firmly intact as he delivers the gorgeous vocal work that could come from no one else, his inimitable style unchanged and aging better than fine wine. The windswept and cinematic overtones of the track are quintessential hallmarks of the group and here they shine like the glow of a full moon on the darkest night. With lyrics like "I could die tonight of a broken heart," this is vintage The Cure and proves that patience is a true virtue. So many bands lose their essential spark over time, but the magic is still alive for The Cure and while it might be a fragile thing, the band was curated it with the utmost care.
Songs of a Lost World is out November 1.
