Given his recent activity, whether that's with his tried and true band Animal Collective or collaborating with Sonic Boom (and a slew of others), it's hard to believe that the last solo album from Panda Bear was 2019's Buoys. Now, five years later, Lennox has announced a new record that still features his long-time bandmates as well as a few others and our first preview is the album's final track, "Defense." Making the news even sweeter is that Cindy Lee has joined Noah on guitar (AnCo member Deakin pops in on piano and production as well) for the dreamy and weightless new tune that floats along a precious and easy going melody that features dazzling work from Lee and some of the haunted grooves that enveloped Diamond Jubilee. The usual psychedelic swirls wrap themselves around one of the steadiest beats we've heard from Lennox in quite some time and as Lennox repeats the phrase "here I come" as the track comes to a close, it feels like he's bracing for a trip to the outer cosmos or to a fantasy beyond our wildest imaginations.
