In September, Mogwai dropped a new, electronic influenced single that captured their wide-screen cinematic sound with distinguished results. Now, the band has announced their eleventh studio album will be out in January and in addition to the recent single "God Gets You Back," the post-rock legends have shared another new one called "Lion Rumpus." Moving back towards their more muscular, guitar-driven sound, the band doesn't hold back on their latest as extreme swells of towering distortion give the song it's monumental feelings of dire urgency and surging harmonics. When speaking about the new record, the group commented that "after the high of putting out As The Love Continues, the following years were personally hard for us." The continued by saying that "we've dealt with a lot of loss and in Barry's case a serious family illness with one his daughters. Getting back together to write and record this record felt like a refuge and with John Congleton [the album's producer] we feel that we've made something special. We often hear from people that our music has helped them get through hard times in their lives and for once I think it applies to us as well."
The Bad Fire is out January 24.
