Mount Eerie - "I Walk" / "Broom of Wind"

On November 1, Mount Eerie will release the new album Night Palace and the first two singles are out now.

Phil Elverum is best known for performing under the moniker Mount Eerie and prior to that as the Microphones. Regardless of the name, his music is has remained rather consistent over his storied career. Sound collages, field recordings, and lo-fi techniques have all played major parts in his song writing and for many, his work has been regarded as some of the best of the century. He's written, deep heart-wrenching music that captures some of the most raw, vulnerable, and devastating moments life can throw at you and other music that can transport you to a specific time and place. In November, he'll return with his first new album as Mount Eerie in five years and he's shared two tracks each of which capture his familiar sound, but also charters new territory in his sonic landscape. "I Walk" is the one that recalls most of his prior work with the buzzing acoustic guitar giving droning vibes over gentle melodies while "Broom of Wind" takes on some of his most jaunting rhythms we've ever heard him record. Neither are a far departure from everything that's made him so vital to so many, but it's one of the more surprising entries we've ever heard from Elverum thus far in his discography and can only begin to suggest what this album may have in store for us.

Night Palace is out November 1.
