For a brief moment, it felt like the band Girls were on the verge of being the next big thing. In their relatively short career, the duo of Christopher Owens and Chet "JR" White release two fantastic albums and a wonderful EP. Then, just when it seemed like they were about to fully breakthrough to the mainstream. Owens announced that he had quit the band. Now it's been nearly a decade since Owens' last solo record and I had entirely forgotten that he had another band called Curls during this time as well. After resurfacing with a new song last month, Owens has officially announced his new solo album, I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair will be out on October 18 via True Panther (the label that released all of Girls' material). The new single that was released along with the album announcement is a pretty standard track from Owens with lush acoustic guitars and bright, breezy melodies much like the best music from Girls. There was a certain magic that was captured between Owens and White that was immediately felt once they split and Owens was releasing music on his own, but "No Good" and "I Think About Heaven" feel like some of the most promising work he's released since his time in Girls so here's to hoping he's found his footing and is back on track with some classic sounding indie rock.
I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair is out October 18.
