The latest single from MJ Lenderman finds the guitarist hitting his stride and easing into his comfort zone for yet another knockout tune.
In early September, rising guitar sensation MJ Lenderman will release his latest album Manning Fireworks and today he's shared the record's third single, "Joker Lips." You know what that means, MJ Lenderman season is in full swing baby as his sweet and mild alt-country tunes make for some excellent late summer and early fall soundtracks, the breezy choruses hitting with that gold-toned buzz courtesy of some excellent pedal-steel-infused guitar that helps anchor his twangy vocals. "Yeah you know I love my TV, but all I really wanna see is see you need me" he sings on the track, his earnestness for keeping hold of what could be slipping away and wanting to feel connected to everything when you get the sense that everything is pushing you away. Recently, it was shared that MJ and his Wednesday bandmate Karly Hartzman ended their relationship and it's hard to not infer if that these lyrics could be in relation to that demise. According to the press release, Lenderman pretty much plays everything on this track (guitar, drums, bass, vocals, organ, drone) aside from the mellotron (shoutout to Alex Farrar for that one), but the recording gives off the vibes of that warm, full band sound where they're all fully locked into the groove.
Manning Fireworks is out September 6.
