Chat Pile - "I am Dog Now"

Noise rock quartet Chat Pile have announced their sophomore record and with that news also comes the crushing new single "I am Dog Now."

On their brutal and sinister debut album God's Country, Chat Pile emerged as one of the most invigorating and heavy new bands to cross over to more main stream success in recent memory. After building their reputation with poignant and unrelenting live shows, the boys are back and ready to cause even more havoc on their upcoming sophomore effort, Cool World. Leading the charge for the new album is their new single "I am Dog Now" and it's a guttural blow that aims to knock the wind out of you with its punishing aim and blistering energy. After a heavy, ambient glow gives way, we're immediately drawn in by the band's downcast and unnerving mix of low-end sounds and hollowed-out guitar riffs that come to power with urgent strains of brutalist sludge metal. The demonic vocals from Raygun Busch help push the cacophonous sound towards extreme grooves and howling rhythms. This is a menacing track that refuses to hold itself back, the band's integral, primal sound leaping forward with each rigorous and clamoring beat. Reaching beyond just their metallic, noise-rock roots, the band has found new ways to drive their extreme tendencies home and have made for something that'll shake you to your very core. From the band's press release, Busch said: "Cool World covers similar themes to our last album, except now exploded from a micro to macro scale, with thoughts specifically about disasters abroad, at home, and how they affect one another. If I had to describe the album in one sentence, it's hard not to borrow from Voltaire, so I won't resist — Cool World is about the price at which we eat sugar in America."

Cool World is out October 11.
