My Back was a Bridge for You to Cross was one of my top ten favorite albums of 2023. Now, in support of the record, ANOHNI has announced her first tour with her backing band The Johnsons in fifteen years. Along with the tour's recent announcement, ANOHNI and the Johnsons have returned with an elegant, minimal ballad that features her stunning vocals over sparse guitar work. The track was co-written and produced by James Hogarth, who also plays said guitar on the song, and features clarinet work by Doug Wieslemen as well, adding to the stark beauty of the tune. It keeps with her recent themes of blue-eyed soul music and aches with crushing devastation. "This time, my friends, is different / This time it never happened before / It's really something to be breaking," she croons with pure heartbreak. It's really something indeed.
