It's a little hard to believe that the last official single we got from Magdalena Bay was when they were building up the release of their fantastic debut album Mercurial World. In the time since they dropped the album, the duo has shared plenty of new music via the record's deluxe edition and several "mini mixes," but today, the duo is back with an announcement for an upcoming tour and added the great new song "Death & Romance" to the news as well. The track is a major-sounding pop song with twinkling keys, jangly percussion, big beats, and hypnotizing electronic elements that set it into hyperdrive. Tenenbaum's vocals are as sugary sweet as ever and bring the effervescent charm that has made the group's songs such ear-worms in the past and this one just seems like it's ready to take over whatever environment it plays in, whether that be the club or one of their upcoming live shows. "Imagine rain pouring, streetlights glowing," the band said in a press release. "You sit at home and wait for your alien boyfriend to pick you up in his UFO…but this time, he’s not coming." There is certainly a glow that resonates throughout the song and it just oozes with a sparkling vibe that feels hard to contain. It's expansive and bursting at the seams with a certain sonic pleasure that takes their sound to a new level as we eagerly await their sophomore follow-up and by the sounds of it, there's no slump on the horizon for these two.
