Presenting: The Best Live Albums, Reissues, Compilations, & Scores of 2023 featuring: Neil Young, Hiroshi Yoshimura, Fleetwood Mac, John Coltrane and Eric Dolphy, Sonic Youth, Sylvester, and more!
Even in a year with astounding brand new music, some of my favorite releases were live albums of old favorites, long-shelved albums that had been waiting in the vaults, compilations from the always fantastic Light in the Attic label, and a score to one of the best films of the year. Whether an updated take on an already classic album, the final live show on US soil from one of the most important American bands of all-time, or reissued out-of-print obscurities that would go on to influence André 3000's solo debut, it was a rewarding year that benefited nearly as much from the past as it did from the present. Once again, genres range from jazz to ambient to punk to electronic and there will surely be something here that peaks your interest.
