The Jesus and Mary Chain - "jamcod"

The Jesus and Mary Chain have announced a new album, Glasgow Eyes, and shared the lead single "jamcod."

Noise-pop icons The Jesus and Mary Chain will celebrate 40 years of being a band (although with a serious gap in those four decades) in 2024 and to usher in the occasion, the Reid brothers are releasing a new record entitled Glasgow Eyes. The new album follows their under appreciated comeback record Damage And Joy from 2017 and continues the band's buzzsaw guitars mixed with girl group era drum beats that they pioneered during the early haze of shoegaze back in the '80s. "jamcod" takes the band's shredded approach to pop and blasts in some industrial undertones as well to amplify the buzzing melodies that sharpen their take on pristine pop. "Hopefully people will expect a Jesus and Mary Chain record, and that's certainly what Glasgow Eyes is," Jim Reid said when speaking about the new album. "Our creative approach is remarkably the same as it was in 1984, just hit the studio and see what happens. We went in with a bunch of songs and let it take its course. There are no rules, you just do whatever it takes. And there's a telepathy there – we are those weird not-quite twins that finish each other's sentences." After forty years perfecting their distorted bliss, they've certainly leaned in to the notion of "if it's not broken, don't fix it" and lucky they're still finding new ways to rehash their wickedly blown-out sound.

Glasgow Eyes is out March 8.
