Carly Rae Jepsen - "Psychedelic Switch"

On her new album, The Loveliest Time, Carly Rae Jepsen releases her inhibitions and gives in to life's best pleasures.

There are plenty of people who still think of Carly Rae Jepsen as the "one-hit" wonder behind the pop craze "Call Me Maybe." Those people are sorely missing out. For those who know, however, Carly Rae has been making some of the best bubblegum-pop over the past decade. For each of her past three albums, she's released a companion record comprised of the b-sides and tracks that didn't make the initial cut. Today, she dropped The Loveliest Time, the flip-side to last year's The Loneliest Time. Surprising to no one, it seems better to be having a lovely time than a lonely one and the tracks on her latest follow-up record outshine those that came before it. In particular, "Psychedelic Switch" is the best track she's released since 2019's underrated record Dedicated. On this number, CRJ dives head-first into love and the full-blown trip that tends to ensue. Overwhelming waves of euphoria flow as four-on-the-floor beats demand a burst of energy, hi-hats kick things into gear, and a the switch flips into a full-blown disco party of infinite sparkle. "I'm on the wildest trip and this is like a psychedelic switch" Jepsen proclaims, the moment crystalizing in sharp focus as everything hits in just the right place, peaking in the purest form of absolute wonder. Here, she's dressing to the nines in her birthday suit and putting on the ritz and even if this feeling lasts for just a moment, it's long enough to feel like forever and forever feels pretty day great in the moment. Love sure is one hell of a drug.

The Loveliest Time is out now!
