Bully and Soccer Mommy have teamed-up for a great new song, "Lose You."
Alicia Bognanno makes excellent, grunge-influenced rock music under the name Bully. Sophie Allison makes more middle of the road indie rock under the name Soccer Mommy. Now, for the first time, the two talented artists have gotten together to collaborate on a one-off new single called "Lose You." While Bully is getting the main credit for this one, it arguably sounds more like a Soccer Mommy track with the fuzz slightly turned down and the riffs not quite set to stun, still, it's a rocking track that feels like the perfect summary of both artists coming together to do what they do best. It's still got that charged-up guitar power, but the howls are toned down into something a bit more digestible while still packing a punch. However, when they slam on the distortion pedal, things pick up just as you'd expect. According to Bognanno:
When “Lose You” came about it was the first time I’ve considered having someone else sing on a Bully song. I love Sophie’s voice and have always admired everything she does so to me it was a no brainer. Watching her soar out of the Nashville scene and dominate indie music world wide has been a joy. Writing “Lose You” was a way for me to work through the pain and reality of impermanence. It doesn’t make it any easier but reflection is often followed by growth and to me that’s what life is all about.
The growth of both songwriters has been apparent over the years, most recently through Soccer Mommy's move to work with Daniel Lopatin (aka Oneohtrix Point Never) on her last album and this track continues to follow the sonic shifts of these maturing songwriters.
