Yves Tumor - "Echolalia"

Yves Tumor has announced a new album, due in March, and (finally) shared the glorious new single, "Echolalia."

Yves Tumor is the kind of futuristic rock star that seems dreamed-up for a sci-fi film. Flashy costumes, dazzling beats, hypnotic rhythms, and vocals that seem to come from the beyond, their style and concept of what rock music can be seems to know no bounds and defies your standard ideas of genres with every perfectly crafted note. "Echolalia," follows last year's "God Is a Circle" and once again finds the artist pushing the limits and exerting themself as one of the most forward-thinking minds in music. While past single have seen the artist reach towering heights of sonic symbolism, "Echolalia" is a bit more paired down. Yves' vocals almost seem like a whisper, a muted twist from their usual bangers like "Kerosene!" or "Noid" and the flashes of sound don't hit with the same impact, but to call this a miss couldn't be further from the truth. Tumor has never catered to expectations and just when we think we've come to understand their music, we're once again left gobsmacked by their ability to transform sound and deliver something that sounds as confident as ever while still pushing themselves to reach new levels. To call this one a ballad also feels wrong, but anyone hoping for something that rocks as hard as "Jackie" should know better than to have ant kind of expectations from Yves because they continue to shatter them with each new tune and "Echolalia" is just yet another mesmerizing display of their range as an artist and adds to the wonder of where they could possibly go on their new record. By now it's become clear: this is Yves Tumor's rock and roll world and we're all just living in it. Slay us, Yves.

Praise A Lord Who Chews But Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds) is out March 17 on Warp.
