The Men will release a new album called New York City in February 2023 and today they've shared the second single, "God Bless the USA."
Ten years ago, The Men seemed like the Brooklyn band. Mixing sludgy punk with maximum rock and roll, their blown-out bangers were epic anthems that felt like the perfect sound to identify with the crusty, DIY nature of the venues that dotted the Williamsburg waterfront. A staple of 285 Kent and Death by Audio, they moved from hardcore to grungy, Crazy Horse style jams that were full of hammering energy and relentless distortion. Several albums and line-up changes later and the band have come roaring back with a return to basic sound that supremely hits the mark and the latest single, "God Bless the USA," is a surging rock song that will immediately take you back to the band at their primal best. Guitars come out blazing on this one with riffs that are ready to pack a punch. It's a call back to their halcyon days of rough and tumble rock and roll, one that will surely call you to the pit, ready to throw up the sign of the horns. It's blistering with energy and the scuzzy sounds that they perfected on their earlier records. There may not be a dominant scene in the city these days, but that hasn't stopped the band from naming the album New York City, and while the DIY venues they once rocked are no more, the Men are still here to prove that for those who want to rock, there's no need to fear as these guys truly have you covered.
