Four Tet has shared a new song, "Scythe Master," that appears on the compilation Eat Your Own Ears Recordings EP 1.
After announcing that he's settled his legal issues with his former label Domino, Four Tet is back with an eight-minute new track that harkens back to some of his best work. "Scythe Master" is an upbeat number, not one that serves as stellar background music, that focuses on fast rhythms and glowing chimes to give it a spaced-out, yet dance-ready feel. You can easily hear it fitting into his DJ sets or being played to get the crowd grooving along to its electric pulse, but it's definitely also got that ethereal vibe that Four Tet has been known to conjure up so well. This is classic Four Tet full of plinking strings, skittering beats, and waves of glassy electronics that flow along as the undercurrent of the track. Over the years, Four Tet has risen as one of the premier producers and makers of electronic music and this is another excellent addition to his ever-growing singles collection. One that would make just as much of a splash on a record as it does on its own.
