Lizzo - "About Damn Time"

Lizzo has returned with her first new song of 2022.

"It's bad bitch o'clock, yeah, it's thick thirty" and just like that, we have a new Lizzo song and the announcement of her long-awaited new album as well. Over a grooving and funky bassline, Lizzo gets straight to the point and brings disco to the forefront of her latest song which she's already declared the song of the summer. And knowing Lizzo, she might just be right. There's a guitar riff that feels like it would've fit in well with Daft Punk's Random Access Memories or any shimmering hit from the '70s that provides the lifeline of the song and it keeps the energy moving with ease. It's a classic and nostalgic vibe all at once, but still light, fresh, and new. The bass hits hard like any good R&B song and leaves space for her voice to take the spotlight. You can also easily picture the song as the perfect one to showcase eclectic footwork. It's a luscious, funky, disco track that is sure to pack the dance floor and get hips shaking. Her trademark flute also finds itself front and center and redefines what makes a disco song hit its mark. The sparkle and magic you've come to expect are in full effect here and even without a stellar chorus, it's easy to believe this one will be lurking in our minds until summer really kicks in and by then, it will probably be inescapable. For now, bust out the sequins and get ready to tear up the dance floor because Lizzo is back and it's about damn time!
