Spiritualized will release a new album in 2022 and today, J Spaceman shared the lead single, "Always Together With You."
In 2018, J Spaceman teased that Spiritualized's album And Nothing Hurt could very well be their last. Lucky for us, this turned out not to be true and in February 2022, we'll get the follow-up, Everything Was Beautiful. In wild twist, the names of the two records form one of the most famous lines from Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse Five: "Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt." Recorded in 11 different studios with a wide range of collaborators, Spaceman said: "There was so much information on it that the slightest move would unbalance it, but going around in circles is important to me. Not like you’re spiraling out of control but you’re going around and around and on each revolution you hold onto the good each time. Sure, you get mistakes as well, but you hold on to some of those too and that’s how you kind of... achieve. Well, you get there." The lead single, "Always Together With You," was first shared in demo form all the way back in 2014, but this one is tuned up with immaculate production. It crescendos to create the kind of sparkle and magic that only Spiritualized can conjure up and feels like an instant breathe of fresh air. We begin with J confessing what he'd do for love as slow electronic beats trickle out of the speakers over soft, subtle guitar tones when suddenly things explode with sound. There is a lot happening on this track and each listen reveals new flourishes that exemplify the overall themes. About halfway through, everything sort of combusts and bursts apart at the seams before collapsing back on itself, reforming, and again radiating an explosive brilliance. It all crystalizes with exquisite unity and tackles the grandiosity in true Spiritualized form.
Everything Was Beautiful is out February 25 via Bella Union/Fat Possum.
