Courtney Barnett will release her new album Things Take Time, Take Time in November and today she has shared the third single.
The new record from Courtney Barnett seems to be a bit more chill than her past works. The singles leading up to the release are cozy and homespun, a break from some of her louder tracks that grabbed hold of the listener on her past two albums. The pandemic seems to have made her slow things down and do a little more reflection on some of the simpler things in life and we hear that very clearly on her new single, "Write a List of Things to Look Forward To.""Sit beside me, watch the world burn/ We’ll never learn we don’t deserve nice things/ And we’ll scream self-righteously/ We did our best, but what does that even mean?" Barnett says, "I found a deeper communication with people in my life — deeper conversations. And a new level of gratitude for friendships that had been there for so long that I had maybe taken for granted." On stage, Barnett absolutely rips on guitar and these new songs really lean more into her skills as a wordsmith so it could be a wonderful balance when she heads back out on tour next year. For now, however, this is another track that confirms her new record should be on everyone's list.
