Jazz guitarist Jeff Parker has shared a cover of a Bowie classic for an upcoming tribute record to the star man.
Following last year's excellent Suite for Max Brown, Jeff Parker has shared a cover of Bowie's "Soul Love" from his 1972 classic Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. While his last record was primarily instrumental, this cover features vocals from his daughter Ruby and gives an updated take on the classic with Parker's signature guitar kick-flips. "Bowie’s career went through a lot of different phases because he was always looking forward and trying new things," Jeff Parker said in a press release. "Above all, he was an artist and an innovator. I was attracted to the eccentricity of ’Soul Love’ as soon as I heard it; Ruby and I were channeling the muse of Bowie when we tackled our rendition of it, trying to stay with his experimental, but accessible, spirit."
Modern Love is out May 28.
