The Avalanches have announced a 20th anniversary edition of their groundbreaking landmark debut, Since I Left You.
For a decade and a half, it seemed like The Avalanches would go down as a band with one singular, exceptional, perfect album. However, since 2016, the group has actually defied some wild dreams and became rather active. Following the sixteen year gap between records, they returned with the great and underrated Wildflower and kept the momentum going with last year's also better than expected We Will Always Love You. Now, the band has announced a 20th anniversary edition of their debut, Since I Left You, which is set to feature remixes of tracks by Stereolab, Craig Carl, MF DOOM, Cornelius, and others. The idea of remixing The Avalanches seems a bit strange considering their musical approach already consisting of samples and guest vocals, but after hearing the new version of "Since I Left You" from Prince Paul, it's immediately intriguing to think of what other groups can do to make these tracks their own. Plus, any excuse to revisit this masterpiece is always welcome.
Since I Left You 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition is out June 4 via Astralwerks.
