Mdou Moctar will release his new album next month on Matador. He's now shared the third single.
Following the excellent track "Tala Tannam," Mdou Moctar is back with another stellar song of blazing guitar work. Stretching over seven minutes, "Afrique Victime" is a bolstering number that starts slowly before erupting with total force. The guitar wizardry here is stunning and sure to attract those looking to rock. It's also setting the stage for perhaps the best guitar-based album of the year. "'Afrique Victime' is a message to all of the countries with money and power who come into Africa and kill the leaders who try to empower the people and lead revolutions," Moctar said in a press release. He followed with: "This pushes the area into danger and instability and emboldens the terrorists, and it’s the people who suffer and have no justice. Africa is innocent. The French use our uranium, but 90% of the people here don't have electricity. Imagine." The lead singles for this record have been excellent and anticipation mounts as we get closer to hearing the whole thing.
Afrique Victime is out May 24 via Matador.
