Another new single from Julien Baker includes her boygenius bandmates on backing vocals and continues to drive the momentum leading to her new album.
Well, there is no surprise here, but Julien Baker delivers yet another excellent track from her new record and the addition of Lucy Dacus and Phoebe Bridgers only heightens the experience. “We sang on ‘Favor’ in Nashville the same day we recorded vocals for ‘Graceland Too’ and a song of mine,” Dacus said in a press statement. “That day had the same atmosphere as when we recorded the boygenius EP.” Bridgers added, “Julien is one of those people whose opinion you want to hear about everything. A true critical thinker with an ever-changing and ridiculously articulate worldview. Her music changes in the same way, and this record is my favorite thing she’s ever done. I’m sure I’ll think the same about the next one.” Like the other singles from the album, this track continues to expand her sound into something bigger than what seemed to be in-scope of her previous work as she shifts into full-band mode. Her tracks were always explosive in the way her voice soared over the music, but it always felt intimate. Since her last record, her popularity has exploded and now it feels like Baker has her eyes set on bigger stakes and has unleashed her confidence and powers to conquer.
Little Oblivions is out on February 26 via Matador.
