Last week, Kamasi Washington dropped his excellent new album Heaven and Earth. Along with the double-album, he has also surprised released a new EP titled The Choice.
When fans purchased a physical copy of Washington's new record last week, reports began to emerge of a fifth disc included with the vinyl packages containing a whole other EP worth of music. This has turned out to be true, and the EP is now available on streaming services as well. The Choice features a cover of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" originally by the Shirelles in 1960 (but written by Carole King and Gerry Coffin) as well as a cover of the Five Stairsteps' 1970 song "Ooh Child." It's a nice addition to add to his great catalogue and proves that Washington is ready to make a name for himself beyond the circles of jazz.
