The War on Drugs - "Strangest Thing"

"Strangest Thing" is the third stunning single from The War on Drugs upcoming record, A Better Understanding, which drops on August 25 via Atlantic.

In 2015, Tame Impala dropped a series of singles leading up to their triumphant record Currents, which prophesied their rise to becoming the indie rock band of the year and one of the biggest on the planet. Now, two years later, The War on Drugs seem to have their eyes set on a similar trajectory. Lead-off single "Thinking of a Place" felt like an epic sprawl of wonder and the follow-up, "Holding On," was a solid march of beautiful guitar melody. Now, "Strangest Thing" presents a howling sound that elevates the band into the cosmos. It's another slow burning track that emulates the radiance of a summer sunset. Guitar solos ache with beauty and synths add a wondrous glow to the track providing a comforting warmth and touching embrace. It's a lush arrangement that is greater than the sum of its parts. A colossal song that never overpowers, but rather welcomes the listener into its impressive beauty. It's another key moment from a band poised to release perhaps the best guitar-rock record of the year.
