Sannhet played St Vitus
Brooklyn's Sannhet has been making quite the name for themselves this year. After releasing the fantastic Revisionists this winter, the band has been a prominent feature in the borough's live scene.
As an instrumental band, it's easy for Sannhet's music to overpower and with no lyrical story, it can create the immediate soundtrack for the listener's daily routines. On stage, the band is anchored by the drums. Impenetrable rhythms steered the band's mighty sound as guitars rocketed skywards and with the drum kit front and center, it was a driving force in the band's presence. In such an intimate setting, watching the every move and drum stroke was a real treat. Not to say that the guitar and bass didn't hold their own, the two piled on the layers of distortion and shine that give the band such a powerful lift that they can easily knock at the door of other luminary bands capable of this heavy magnitude. Sannhet can evoke similar emotions and thunder as Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Deafheaven, the sound of imposing doom rushes over the crowd before being swept up in a fit of fury. Their sound is a driving force that never relinquishes hold of your senses and their enthralling light show is arena ready and just waiting for the prime opportunity to dazzle massive crowds. It's such an encompassing experience that it's easy to get lost in the moment. As blankets of white snow wash over the band and strobes blare from behind, epic swells of sonic texture come crashing down with the utmost restraint showcasing the band's supreme control and grasp of their music. Everything came together with stunning diligence that it only seems to be a matter of time before more people take notice of their brilliant talents.
